‘TUMBLEWEED’
My work is informed by the often forgotten elements within nature, the finer details. I am fascinated by what lies within, be it a pattern within a pebble, a piece of wood, o the fragile structure of the seed pod and the journey they have taken before they caught my eye. The seedpod is a recurring theme within my work, the project I am currently working on celebrates the seedpod and the transient and often precarious nature for its survival. I see a correlation between the survival of the seedpod with my creative journey, each piece informing the next using wire as a visual medium to communicate and explore both energy fragility and regeneration. I have used ‘tumbleweed’ as a working title and starting point for the project as it is associated with a desolate landscape. Tumble weed is a dead plant apart from the 100’s of seeds hidden within its skeletal protective form which I see as a metaphor to the safety nets we surround ourselves with, however within it are 100’s of seeds (potential)
My work is essentially an abstract interpretation of the structures and biological forms I have seen whilst researching seedpods. I have then combined these influences into new sculptural forms. My intention is To inspire those who see my work to look more carefully at the fragile world around them, and to discover beauty in the often overlooked details of the environments we inhabit.
